10 Background Dancers who became Bollywood Superstars

One might be surprised to learn that there are quite a few celebrities who had actually started their career as a background dancer. At one time they used to perform as a background dancer in certain movie songs. It is because of their skill and talent they have managed to establish themselves in the industry. Some of those talented actors are as follows:

  1. Shahid Kapoor:

Shahid Kapoor has now established himself as an actor. But at the start of his career, he used to work as a background dancer. He worked as a background dancer in the songs like “Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaye” and “Mujh Ko Hui Na Khabar” etc. He has always been a very good dancer and had interest in dancing right from his childhood. At a very young age, he joined ‘Shiamak Davar’s Dance Institute’. Therefore he didn’t have any problem to get a work as a background dancer in Bollywood. He worked as a background dancer in popular movies like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai.’ Thereafter eventually he made his entry in Bollywood.

  1. Saroj Khan:

Saroj Khan is known as one of the most popular choreographers of Bollywood. She has done choreography for several films in Bollywood. But very few of us know the fact that at the start of her career she actually worked as a background dancer. She worked as a background dancer in the films like ‘Howrah Bridge where she was seen appearing in the song  ‘Aaiye Meharbaan’ alongside Ashok Kumar and Madhubala.

  1. Farah Khan:

Just like Saroj Khan, Farah Khan is also a very well known choreographer in Bollywood. She has also done choreography for several movies of Bollywood. But she has also worked as a background dancer for movies like ‘Sadaa Suahagan’ where she was seen dancing alongside Govinda in the song ‘Hum Hain Naujawan.’

  1. Remo D’souza:

Remo D’souza has now established himself as one of the best choreographers of Bollywood. He always had a passion for dancing and therefore he joined the industry as a background dancer. He appeared as a background dancer in many films like ‘Rangeela.’ He is seen dancing alongside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the song ‘Meri Mahbooba’ of Pardes.

  1. Sushant Singh Rajput:

Many few of us know the fact that the actor started his career as a background dancer. He used to work with choreographer Shiamak Davar before joining the industry as an actor. The actor had worked as a background dancer with a number of well-known Bollywood actors like Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, and Preity Zinta etc. He is seen dancing along with Hrithik Roshan in the title song of Dhoom 2.

  1. Daisy Shah:

The famous actress worked as a background dancer in the song ‘Lagan Lagi’ from the famous film ‘Tere Nam.’ Here she was seen dancing alongside superstar Salman Khan. The actress got the break in Bollywood with the film ‘Jai Ho.’

  1. Dia Mirza:

She is regarded as one of the most promising actors of Bollywood. She tried her hand in modeling before joining Bollywood. But at the start of her career, she worked as a background dancer in several south Indian movies. She appeared as a background dancer in a song sequence for the South Indian movie ‘En Swasa Kaatre.’

  1. Arshad Warsi:

The actor started his career as a choreographer. He actually entered the film industry as a background dancer. He appeared in a song ‘Help Me’ from the movie ‘Aag Se Khelenge’ alongside actors like Jeetendra and Kimi Katkar.

  1. Kajal Agarwal:

The famous actress started her career as a background dancer in shows and movies. She appeared in a dance sequence alongside Aishwarya Rai in the movie ‘Kyun Ho Gaya Na.’ She worked in several Telegu and Tamil movies alongside Hindi movies. She worked with Ajay Devgan in the film ‘Singham’ and with Akshay Kumar in the movie ‘Special 26.’

10.Smriti Irani:

The politician was a very popular TV actress. Before becoming a well known face in the TV industry she worked as a background dancer in music videos. She appeared in the music video of Mika Singh called ‘Boliyan’ in 1998. She rose to fame with a very popular TV serial namely ‘Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ that ran for a long time topping the TRP at that time.
